About the Role

We are seeking an experienced attorney to join Turn/River in the company’s first in-house legal role.  In this position, you will report directly to the CFO and work cross-functionally within our organization to ensure that legal matters are handled in a professional and efficient manner.  You will be responsible for providing legal advice and support on company matters, drafting and reviewing legal documents, and overseeing regulatory compliance. This is an exciting opportunity for an attorney with private funds experience to make a significant impact on the company and shape the legal and compliance function at Turn/River.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review, draft, and negotiate contracts, including fund formation documents, general partner agreements, investment documents, NDAs, MSAs, and employment agreements
  • Manage outside fund counsel and review fund offering documents and side letters when launching new fund products; serve as the in-house legal expert with respect to provisions and mechanics of the fund governing documents
  • Oversee the company’s compliance program to ensure the company is in compliance with securities law and regulations as well as fund governing documents
  • Work with outside counsel to manage legal matters requiring specialized expertise or additional resources
  • Monitor legal developments in the industry and make recommendations to the business regarding process and policy updates 

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of legal experience, including at least 3 years at a law firm
  • JD (or equivalent) degree from an accredited law school
  • Experience working in and/or with private equity, venture capital, or hedge funds
  • Ability to analyze complex legal issues and provide clear, practical advice
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry best practices for registered investment advisers
  • High attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with a diversity of teams and individuals

Location and Compensation

  • San Francisco, hybrid work model

Base salary range for this role is $300,000-$330,000, taking into account numerous variable factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, licensure, certifications, and organizational requirements.
